Whether you're curious about the United Nation's
stance on nuclear power, or searching for the most popular motivational quotes,
the internet is the world's one-stop shop for information.
The internet is a pretty huge place. Search
engines do exist to unite us, the searchers, with the information or knowledge
we we're trying to find.
Google's mission statement is "to
organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful". I bet you
realized the word "information" in the previous statement. Google exists to search & deliver the info we're
searching for. Of course Google has many other intentions beyond innocently
fetching website suggestions for us, but their main objective is driven by the
fact that search engine users need Google to find things online.
Whether the "information" Google
delivers is a news story, a blog, a photo or a YouTube clip, the bottom line is
that these are all kinds of website content.
o Why good
content is here to stay?
Good content
is king, and will remain king, because that's what the idea of search engines
and search engine users is all about: delivering content.
Which search engine is your favorite? Google?
Bing? Yahoo? Think about why you like that specific engine. People want to ask
search engines a question, in their own words, and get exactly what they're
looking for. And that's what Google is trying to do: a search engine that
intuitively understands us (our intent, phrasing, context, word choices) the
same way a human would.
Search engines are based around delivering
information, or content. If website content didn't exist, neither would search
engines. It's that simple.
There are trillions of web pages on the internet.
No human being can possibly get through that much information, so the team at
Google created a search engine system that can. And with the number of
websites and web pages increasing every second, people will need help scouring
the internet for specific info.
Search engine giants, like Google, are constantly
working to improve their algorithms so they can get you the best answers, fast.
Plain & simple, the search engines revolve around content…compiling it,
archiving it, ranking it and delivering it.
Other website
factors are important, too (SEO, design, etc.), but content is the piece of the
puzzle that needs to exist in order for search (as we know it) to exist. That's
why having content on your website is so important and it's why content
marketing is finally picking up.
