In this article we are going to discuss a common
problem that may face a lot of business owners and marketers. Most of the time you think you have the right
product for the right market.
You think you have everything lined up so that success is just about guaranteed; simply you get everything all set up to go.
You think you have everything lined up so that success is just about guaranteed; simply you get everything all set up to go.
You even pay good money to get someone to put together the right ads. And when it comes time for it to hit the market...
It doesn't even make a splash. As if nobody was watching. Nobody was paying attention.
And you start asking yourself: All that hard work for what? Why does that happen?
Quite often, it's because the marketing got it wrong. In the sense that, whatever story they thought was being sold to the marketplace... the marketplace heard another story. This other story makes them conclude that the offer wasn't right; wasn't wanted; wasn't needed.
How do you make sure that doesn't happen to your business?
You dig in to find out as much about your best possible prospect as you can. You don't guess. You don't allow some artistic type at an agency come up with some outlandish idea of what your best possible prospect is like.
You have to find out for real. That indeed does require effort. And it does require a little bit of "detective" work to find out who your best possible prospect is and how you can find out what really makes them tick.
When you are able to do that (and believe me most
businesses do NOT do it at all)... not only are you able to craft the right
story that speaks to the consumer in a way that causes them to feel like they
want or need your product...
You practically guarantee that you are going to win even before you roll the offer out to the market.
Like I said, most will not do this. It takes too much time and too much effort. Or they rely too much on a creative type who thinks some "out of the box" effort will do the trick.
Maybe, But it's more likely that the "outside the box" trick you really need...Is a story that sells the right folks.
And that doesn't have to come by guess work. That doesn't have to come by a "hope and pray" strategy.
You can find out enough details about your best
possible prospects that you are able to put out the right message that leads to
them telling themselves the story they want to hear...
The one they need to hear...
In order to buy what it is you are selling.
So anytime you put out an ad or offer that doesn't seem to work - think of the best possible prospect and the story they get from hearing or reading your ads. Because that's one of the more common ways in which marketing fails. But it doesn't have to.
