When you
are faced with this dilemma, it can sometimes be useful to assess pros and cons
of having a marketing specialist vs. outsourcing your marketing campaign, so
here is a quick comparison:
1)
Experience.
The person you choose to hire may have some experience in marketing. They can use some of the systems and current practices there and be able to get up to speed quickly. However, they may well not know all the things you want to use in your business. A marketing company has extensive experience in-house. Not only are they likely to know all the current marketing systems and does not require training on one of them, but they also like to have experience in a wide range of marketing practices including telemarketing, branding, email marketing, social media and the list goes on and on.
2) Access to a team.
A marketing company will usually have access to a team that will work on your behalf. Your marketing will be discussed daily in the team and different people will experience what may suit your business the best. Contrast that with someone that you use internally. Unless they have someone to bounce ideas off and get input from, it's likely they'll be asking you ideas. This may be fine until you are busy and you can't have the time to devote to them, leaving them on their own.
3) Costs.
Use an in-house person may well mean that you can keep your marketing costs lower. However, their experience and their lack of access to a team can say they take longer to get up to speed things up. Generally, you have a new employee at least three months to learn the ropes, while a marketing team will be up and running and moving your business forward much faster than that. With experience, to get up to speed and access to a team in mind, often the costs of hiring a marketing company can be much lower.
4) Results.
Regardless if you're employing someone in-house or outsourced to a marketing company, the results are paramount. The results are likely to be faster and at a higher level compared to outsourcing using and if all does not go to plan, a marketing company can be much easier to stop working with the person you caught on.
5) Choose someone to work with.
When we employ people, it usually takes around 3-4 months until a new employee starts, with applications, interviews and notice periods. On the other hand, you can talk to three or four marketing companies and have them work with you within 3-4 weeks.
This was a brief comparison between both options, now it is your job to decide which one will work best for you.
